Our company is using Office 365 and SharePoint 2013, hosted by Microsoft.
From what I've read and tried, it appears that URL links (shortcuts) to documents stored in SharePoint, are pretty useful unless the original document is moved or deleted.
Is it possible to use SharePoint technology to manage the links? For example, is there a SharePoint utility to move a document to another SharePoint library and for SP to relate the old, moved document's URL to the document's new SP URL?
I'm asking as we're setting up a document management process that relies upon contributors being able to find the original document through the original URL. If I move a document, would I need to re-send the new URL; would I need to manually edit any documents that have the old URL and update to the new one?
Are there any strategies or resources that you could recommend for me to read to do this right?
