OneNote folders in SharePoint Online

I'm testing moving some OneNote files into SharePoint 2013 and I'm trying to figure out the behavior. When I create a OneNote Notebook on my local drive it creates a folder with the name of the Notebook and then a .one file for each section in that notebook. When I move that entire folder to SharePoint Online, or more specifically Onedrive for Business, the file gets turned into a .ms-one-stub and the rest of the content is moved. I then get a cryptic message in OneNote saying that the content is syncing to the wrong place and to click here to open the correct location. Once I click then the notebook opens and functions fine.

My question is, where did the content actually get stored? I can't find the actual content anywhere. It's clear that the stub file isn't the actual content as it's much to small. I've seen this question asked a few other times but I wasn't able to find the answer. Can anybody link an article or a good explanation of the back end behavior?

Thanks,

Joel
