Office 2016 upgrade breaks One Drive for Business and SharePoint site authentication

Hello there

A client is having an authentication problem following an upgrade

Platform:

Windows 10 Home

Office 365 Home Premium 2016and

Office 365 SharePoint online services

First of all let me clarify the above. My client upgraded herOffice 365 Home premium suite to 2016. This suite used a Microsoft account to activate and it is working fine. She also has a365 Small Business plan deploying SharePoint online and email.

As it happens both the Microsoft account and the Online services account use the same credentials i.e. the same email address and password for both services. This occurred because she bought Office 365 home premium first, activating with a newly created Microsoft Account using her work email address. Later, she migrated her domain Online services and setup the same email address as per her accepted domain. But everything worked fine until the recent Office upgrade

I mention this as it may be relevant, but I know it shouldn't be.

Ok, the 2016 Office upgrade removed OneDrive for business and broke the Sync service she was previously using for her SharePoint site. This problem has been identified by Microsoft here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3098502

It doesn't look like we can do much about this until they release the new OneDrive client.

But when she attempts to open any document (Word or Excel) from theSharePoint Site, she is constantly prompted for Account verification every time

If she enters the creds, it works. But when she tries to open another document it demands the verification process again. I've tried everything to retain the credentials. CreatingNetwork Locations to the libraries works fine; but if you try to open a document this way, same issue. Adding the credentials into Office 2016 works and you can browse the libraries, but try to open a document - still the same issue.

With respect the credential sharing the same username and password (above), the online verification does ask and correctly identifies the account type, but I'm wondering if the local credential database may have issue here.

The upgrade has effectively rendered her SharePoint services useless. This is a serious problem and any help will be appreciated

Thanks in advance
