Using metadata i nsharepoint to filter pages? Help!

Hi all,

I am new to Sharepoint and super confused. Here is what my company wants to accomplish:

  • Content types with some libraries having one (such as Client Compliance Docs or PortolioMgmt) and others (such as Clients Doc Library) having several ie. Insurance, Portfolio Management, Estate, etc.
  • Each library had a default custom page organized by metadata (vs folders): Household, Content Type, etc.
  • I created a Web Part page which contained a SP list filter using the Household List at the top of the page and separate web parts for each library (ie. Client Compliance Docs, PorfolioMgmt, Client Documents) with each Web Part filtered by the Household selected in the SP list filter. I was successful previously in getting this to work for each subsite, but not able to do it at the top site which is why I started to test the catalog function across sites but got lost and confused.

Ultimate goal is to have several different filtered web pages (filtered by Household or Document Type, etc) containing a standard view of filtered docs contained in all libraries.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for this? I have set up metadata and metadata navigation.
