SharePoint Hosted App and SQL Azure

• we are using Office 365 sharepoint online.
• SharePoint list exceeding twenty thousand (20,000) plus
• SharePoint hosted app is very slow on query the list due to threshold limit of 5000.
• Is there any option to save the record into SQL Azure DB rather than saving into SPList?
• If yes – what would be the steps?
