Using Windows 8, IE 11, Office 365 SharePoint site MS Project 2016 professional. I have seen dozens of posts about this issue but never seen a solution or fix.
I have created a template Project site within SharePoint for my team to start new project sites quick, easily and to the same standard
At this point the task list is empty, so I opened MS Project 2016 on my desktop and then select "New from SharePoint Task List", I enter the address of the new site I have created and it picks up the empty task list. I now have an empty project which
is linked to the SharePoint task list. I then enter a few tasks and Save. The task list synchronises and then the mpp file is saved into the Site Assets. This is great. I really want my team to be able to update their task status in SharePoint and then I can
sync back to the MPP file and see how my project is going.
The problem comes when I go to the task list and use the "Open with Project" Button. It opens the MS project file in the Project client but it often opens it in READ ONLY mode. This means I cannot make changes to the project schedule (add tasks, update timelines, etc.) and cannot sync any changes back to the task list. This makes the whole feature pointless. The whole point is to be able to keep syncing changes between the MS project and the task list throughout the project life cycle.
I've seen a suggested workaround to open the MPP from the Recent projects view in the MS project client. But this produces the same result. What really makes it worse is that SOMETIMES IT WORKS FINE and opens it in edit mode. But mostly it doesn't. No clear reason why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.
I know I'm not alone in this issue but have never seen a fix anywhere that makes any sense.
I'd love some help here because if this can be made to work it could transform our operations.
thanks
