We have SharePoint 2010 running on premise with part of it highly customized. We are contemplating following:
1) move it directly to Office 365 to take advantage of the latest features of SharePoint 2016 OR
2) upgrade to SharePoint 2013 on premise to get the SP 2013 new features, and at a later time migrate SP2013 to Office 365
The original understanding was migrate SP2010 to Office 365 is more complicated than migrated SP2013 to Office 365, hence we decided to first upgrade to SP2013 on premise and plan to migrate SP2013 to Office
365 later. But then due to the custom solution upgrade increases the project cost dramatically we are re-thinking this strategy.
Since we are planning to move to SharePoint Office 365 in near future, we will have to do this custom code upgrade again, - wouln't it make more sense to upgrade once from SP2010 to Office 365?
Now the questions are -
1. If we upgrade to SP2013 on premise, including custom solution upgrade to SP2013, can we move them to Office 365 without major feature break (since the current Office 365 us based on SP2013)?
2. How much more complicated/costly it will be if we migrate SP2010 to SharePoint office 365, v.s. to move SP2013 to SharePoint Office 365? (note we have highly customized portion and Nintex workflows)
Appreciate any advices!
