why modern pages rendered inside IE specifically will have free space at the right side of the screen

I am facing this problem when i tested our modern page (which is added inside our team site collection) using different browsers.

now i have split the modern page into 3 vertical columns , as follow:-

now the modern page will be rendered inside Firefox and chrome, with the full horizontal space being occupied as follow:-

while on IE 11 , there will be a huge amount of free space to the right of the page (almost a waste space which is equal to a full vertical column), as follow:-

so my question is can this free space on IE 11 be eliminated ? and have the page looks similar to what is shown inside Firefox and chrome??
