Multi-valued external data - picking specific value

I have an external lookup column that looks up unique project numbers. Each project number has one or more authors associated to it. My problem is that, when dealing with multiple authors, the lookup picker always chooses the top most author for the list element. I used SharePoint Designer 2013 to create the Read Item/List operation based on an SQL view.

Is there some way I can manually pick authors?
