Why doesn't Email Option appear for External/Guest User when setting up an Alert in Sharepoint Online?

Why doesn't Email Option appear for External User when setting up an Alert in Sharepoint Online?
And/or what is the work around?

We have allowed specified Guest User to access SharePoint Online Site. 
However, when they go to setup an Alert, there is no box to put in email address.
If they click on OK at the bottom of the pop up Alert Screen, it comes up with message.

"Sorry, something went wrong. You do not have an email address. Alert has been created successfully but you will not receive notifications until valid e-mail or mobile address has been provided in your profile"
