Workflow not starting on create

I have a SharePoint 2010 workflow with a Approval Task Action that creates a task on the task list.   I want to be able to automatily kick off a workflow on that created task to send reminders.    I can create the workflow on the task list but the tasks with not start the workflow it also looks like I can not start the workflow manualy on that content type.  Can anyone tell me why or if I can get around the limitation.
