Set item with max(date) on the list

Hi All,

I have a list with columnA (text), columnB (date), status (integer). ColumnA has employees with duplicates (e.g. Smith, Smith, Smith, Pearson, Person). How can I set one item for Smith with max value of date with value "5" in status column? By workflow? I'm not develoer, workflow in SharePoint Designer looks strange for me ;-) Maybe with jquery, javascript? Is it possible? What do you think?
