We have sharepoint online classic team site with publishing feature enabled. We were using "Popular Items" report in sharepoint online library on regular basis and it was showing different counts for "Recent" and "Ever" columns. Recently we have noticed it has started showing 0 for all popular items in "Recent" and "Ever" columns.
- This is OOTB feature in SharePoint online
- We haven't customized this OOTB feature
- We always use office online apps to open documents in SharePoint online. See below response from another forum
- We tested this behavior in other site collections in SharePoint online and behavior is same
