Hi everyone,
I need someone to clear up my confusion!! Basically, I am trying to achieve the following in SharePoint online (2013):
Ideally, TEAM PARENT SITE should has the following groups and permissions:
1. PARENT SITE Owners (Full Control)
2. PARENT SITE Viewers (View Only)
3. PARENT SITE Editors (Edit)
SUB-SITE should has the following groups and permissions:
1. SUB-SITE Owners (Full Control)
2. SUB-SITE Viewers (View Only)
3. SUB-SITE Editors (Edit)
In my case, I created the SUB-SITE groups and permissions AFTER breaking inheritance permission from the SUB-SITE setting > Site Permissions, BUT it seems that all groups between the PARENT-SITE and the SUB-SITE are linked because the actual grouping in the TEAM SITE becomes:
PARENT-SITE groups:
1. PARENT SITE Owners (Full Control)
2. PARENT SITE Viewers (View Only)
3. PARENT SITE Editors (Edit)
4. SUB-SITE Owners (Full Control)
5. SUB-SITE Viewers (View Only)
6. SUB-SITE Editors (Edit)
SUB-SITE groups:
1. SUB-SITE Owners (Full Control)
2. SUB-SITE Viewers (View Only)
3. SUB-SITE Editors (Edit)
My questions are:
1. Why do all these unique groups resides in the SUB-SITE get copied to the PARENT-SITE?
2. Why does any change made to any of these groups in the PARENT-SITE, gets updated in the SUB-SITE, vise versa... Aren't they supposed to be independent?
3. The permission levels and groups have been changed couple of times across the TEAM SITE hierarchy, could this be the root cause?
Any opinion is greatly appreciated!!
